China Lands First Astronauts on the Moon in Historic Mission

China has made history by successfully landing two astronauts on the lunar surface near the South Pole, becoming only the second nation???after the United States???to achieve a crewed Moon landing.

The Mission

Taikonauts Chen Dong and Liu Yang touched down in the Shackleton Crater region at 14:23 UTC, spending approximately 8 hours on the lunar surface collecting samples and deploying scientific instruments.
